OR NOT TO BE: The True Story of William Shakespeare - A Novel by RON RAMDIN
A vegetarian restaurant in Miami, Florida, run by a Trinidadian family, has received appreciative publicity in the Miami press and on tourist sites, including articles in the Miami Herald and Miami New Times and glowing reviews on Tripadvisor.
Run by siblings Vidya, Manni and Dharam Maharaj, with Dharam’s wife, Valerie Slone, and inspired by family matriarch, Diya Maharaj, Diya Indian Kitchen Bar & Lounge serves traditional Indian food adapted both to a modern setting and for the American palate.
Diya opened its doors to the public just as the COVID-19 pandemic was taking off and has struggled due to the restaurant shutdown that followed. But it has reopened, and according to Dharam Maharaj, its owners are eager to “introduce a concept that authentically represent[s] our heritage and offer[s] extensive options for vegetarians and our community – a source for healthy and flavor-forward food”.
Executive Chef Vidya, an epidemiologist by day, loves to experiment with recipes, spicing and flavouring. The restaurant offers dishes from north and south India, but also serves up Trini favourites such as Doubles and Aloo Pie.
It is located at 1766 Bay Rd, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Telephone: (786) 536-2095
